The Pros and Cons of School Bells

At Ross School, the bell has been established for the end and beginning of the school day. I, as many, have wondered why the bells do not sound for the start and end of classes like it does at many other schools. After some research and polls, I have gotten answers on the pros and cons of why school bells should be required in schools.

Pros

• Pro – Creates an accurate time for students to leave/arrive
• Pro – Students wouldn’t be late to class as there would be a designated time for when it ends
• Pro – Students would not get detentions for being late, as the bell would remind them
• Pro – Gives the school an organized schedule

Cons

• Con – Students rush to get to class
• Con – they also rush to finish work, making assignments not their best work
• Con – The bell may be seen as an indication that students aren’t responsible enough
• Con – Would not have an excuse, even if you were preoccupied, for being late
