Ross School Hot Lunch
By: Harper Nutting and Jordan Kelly
In 2020, Good Earth Catering went out of business and the hot lunches previously provided to Ross School came to an end. We were forced to find a new company to supply our lunch everyday. Unfortunately we had to give up the Taco Tuesdays and Pizza Wednesdays. And though everyone was excited to try the new lunches at first , we where quickly disappointed.
The reason behind this was that the food had been pre-packaged in green reusable containers the morning they were being served. Therefore, the food had been sitting in the heat and condensation for an hour.
We also believe that the recipes are too sophisticated for the elementary and middle school students.
We have interviewed some middle school teachers and students on their opinions on the hot lunch system.
Elle Prezzano “Our school hot lunch is not my favorite and its usually not my first option when choosing lunch.
Austin Zazzara “Quesadillas could be used as drum sticks.
Coulter Kawaja “My brother has bitten into a soggy burger, just to open it up and find MOLD!”
Ms. Santin “Portion sizes were good, could have used better plant based options, although I like that they use reusable packaging, and the fact that it is eco friendly. It’s better than the 90s, where we didnt know if it was cat meat or chicken.”
Ellis Goodenough and Rosie Robalard “The chips could be more crisp and the salad is not very fresh.”
Ava Grevelding “I’ve been having the school hot lunch since 6th grade and I think that the food is really healthy. Some days should me more kid friendly, Instead of having food like chicken cacciatore with pineapple juice on the side”
Wrapping up, we believe that the hot lunch is not preferred by most students, and we believe it should be changed for the well being of our hungry students. At the very least, bring back pizza Wednesdays!
