Teachers With New Grades To Teach

Every year at Ross, teachers choose to change grades. These teachers are who we talked to to ask why they changed positions or grades.

Mr. Rice ( Principal – Interim Superintendent)

Mr. Rice recently moved from principal to interim superintendent this year. Lets interview him and see what he thinks about this change…

“The Board of Trustees has entrusted me to lead the district as an Interim Superintendent for now. I will apply for the job this winter and will hopefully be the Superintendent by spring.”

He also thinks It’s very different from being a Principal. He writes and reads more than before and he has new content and skills to learn but those are coming along nicely, “I think. I also feel responsible for each and every student. I try to treat Ross School students like my own children, with love and respect.”

Mrs. Graham ( 1st grade to principal K-4)

Mrs. Graham recently moved from being a 1st grade teacher to being the principal K-4. Let’s see what she thinks…

“I chose to change my position because I have always wanted to be an elementary principal. Ross School has become a place where I love to come to work to support our students, and I feel lucky that I can now support students at a larger level in this new role. I LOVE teaching and will always be a teacher first and foremost, however, I absolutely love being an elementary principal where I can be a part of every classroom and interact with many students every day; it fills my heart with so much joy.”

Mrs. Pearl (2nd grade – 4th grade)

“I taught 2nd grade for multiple years in a row at Ross and missed working with older students! I love how in 4th grade we get to explore longer chapter books and write meaningful pieces! I love working in any grade at Ross School, they are all fun and unique in their own ways!”

Mrs. Baker (3rd grade – 4th grade)

In her own words: “I SAW THAT THERE WAS A NEED BECAUSE THIS SPECIFIC GRADE HAS 3 CLASSES. WE CALL IT A ‘BUBBLE CLASS’ WHEN THERE IS A GRADE BIGGER THAN 2 CLASSES IN SIZE. I HAVE FOLLOWED THIS CLASS SINCE 2ND GRADE SO I HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOW THE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES VERY WELL. I KNEW THERE WOULD NEED TO BE ANOTHER TEACHER IN 4TH GRADE, SO I VOLUNTEERED. I HAVE TAUGHT 4TH GRADE IN THE PAST, BUT IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO. I ENJOY TEACHING A NEW GRADE LEVEL EVER SO OFTEN BECAUSE IT PUTS ME OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE. I HAVE MOVED TWICE IN THE PAST COUPLE YEARS, SO I THINK I WILL BE READY TO STAY PUT NEXT YEAR:). I LOVE TEACHING ALL GRADE LEVELS, BUT I ESPECIALLY ENJOY THE 4TH GRADE CURRICULUM. SUCH AS; THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BEAR FLAG REPUBLIC THROUGH THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR, THE GOLD RUSH AND GRANTING OF CA STATEHOOD. CA HISTORY HAS ALWAYS INTERESTED ME. THE STUDENTS IN THIS GRADE ARE ALWAYS EAGER TO LEARN. THEY ARE NATURALLY CURIOUS LEARNERS WHO WORK REALLY WELL TOGETHER. I HAVE ENJOYED TEACHING THEM SO MUCH.”
