Obesity and Diabetes are Associated With Cancer
792,600 new cases of cancer each year worldwide have been shown to be linked to diabetes and obesity.
Cancer has been linked to people with Type 2 Diabetes and Type 1, but the different types have different cancers. People with Type 2 diabetes are at an increased chance for some cancers more than people with Type 1 diabetes. This is because people with Type 2 Diabetes have increased circulating insulin levels, whilst people with Type 1 diabetes have low to no circulating insulin levels. Increased insulin levels have been proven to be linked with cancer.
Cancer has also been linked to obesity. According to a study from GLOBOCAM, about 28,000 new cases of cancer were linked to obesity. Also, the United States had the highest fractions of cancer attributed to obesity. In addition to this, cancers linked with obesity make up 40% of cancers.
To conclude, if 40% of the cancers are due to obesity, and if we prevent these diseases, then the number of people with cancer in America will go down from 14,738,719 to 8,843,231.
